Hamlet Final Document Assignment Collage- What lies beyond the mind

Raven Da Silva

My collage expresses the state of Hamlets mind and certain events that would be ever-present in his thoughts. Each picture represents a different aspect of his mind and different events and feelings. The pictures come out from a brain with a “DO NOT ENTER” sign, signifying how complexity of his mind is and it would not be advised to enter it and try to understand it. Hamlet is very frustrated and confused about the current situations which surround him. The Rubik’s cube represents this for people can get quite irked when trying to solve this puzzle which is just like Hamlet’s life. This is also represented by the screaming man. In parts of the tragedy, is greatly angered by events such as the knowledge of Claudius murdering his father Old King Hamlet. Che Geuvera represents the rebellious actions of Hamlet and how he defies the words of others to follow his own accord and do what he thinks is best. The ducks represent how Hamlet differs from the other people in the play. Hamlet is represented by the blue duck showing his disposition. He is alone in his opinions such as when Hamlet is still grieving the death of his father while everyone else has moved on and they are confused why he dwells so much on the subject. The picture with the oranges represents how Hamlet is isolated and how he feels such. Throughout the play, Hamlet isolates himself from everyone and shuts the door to anyone trying to penetrate his mind. The skull in the corner represents death. It was purposely placed in the corner for during the entire play, death is an ever-present theme and forever in the corner of Hamlet’s mind. The deaths of Ophelia, Old King Hamlet, Gertrude and Hamlet himself ring true to this theme. Also, it represents Yorick’s skull with the great soliloquy that follows it which shows great imagery of death and fantastic knowledge of Hamlet’s mind. The knife behind the back shows the secrets that Hamlet keeps of death and his secret plot to commit the murder of Claudius. It also represents the procrastination that Hamlet commits. He is hiding his idea, still contemplating it o make sure he is making the right decision. The feeling of being trapped is quite prominent do the jail cell represents how Hamlet is trapped within his own thoughts and by the people around him. The biblical text along the bars also expresses his devotion to God and how he bases his decisions on his faith. The sad girl is Ophelia. Hamlet loved Ophelia, and with her death came guilt that haunts him. A broken heart is attached to the picture representing how Hamlet broke Ophelia’s heart and she, his. The picture of the world exploding exhibits how Hamlet’s world is falling apart around him. Everything is upside down and people keep betraying him and leaving his life. No one trusts him anymore besides his loyal friend Horatio and in the end, his world crumbles due to the deceit of others and he is left with nothing.
